Catch up with family and friends with Skype on your TV, catch your favorite movie with Netflix and listen to great music with Pandora - plus more! Amazon.com Product Description
Building on its award-winning 2009 Plasma line, Panasonic's 46-inch VIERA TC-P46G25 Plasma HDTV features a new panel with NeoPDP technologies that provide the best balance of black and white under brighter environments while also offering higher energy efficiency. The new NeoPDP Plasma panel also further reduces reflections and creates sharper pictures with higher contrast in brighter environments. This G25 series model provides 1080p resolution, full-time 1080 TV lines of moving picture resolution, and 600Hz Sub-field Drive for superb motion clarity.

This and other models in the G25 line offer Panasonic's improved VIERA Cast functionality, which enables you to stream Internet video and audio programming as well as turn this HDTV into a high-definition, wireless video conference center with Skype capabilities (when using the optional Panasonic communication camera and Wi-Fi adapter accessories). You can also play back JPEG images and AVCHD videos stored on SD memory cards and operate a variety of VIERA Link components--from Blu-ray Disc players to digital cameras--through a single remote.

Adhering to Panasonic's commitment to the environment, this VIERA model--as well as all 2010 models--features improved power consumption and meets the new, more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements. And you'll get a long Plasma panel life of up to 100,000 hours--more than 30 years of viewing when watched 8 hours a day--before the brightness of the panel decreases to half.

Key Features

Panasonic's VIERA G25 series Plasma HDTV with streaming content from VIERA Cast partners.

VIERA Cast: Enjoy a variety of streaming movies, TV shows, and music, photo slideshows, and home video conferencing with VIERA Cast's assortment of online content--including Amazon Video on Demand, Netflix, Pandora, Twitter, YouTube, and Picasa. VIERA Cast's addition of Skype (requires optional communication camera; model TY-CC10) enables you to connect and communicate through voice and video calls from the comfort of your own living room.

This VIERA HDTV includes two USB ports for connecting a keyboard or a Wi-FI LAN adapter (sold separately) as well as an Ethernet port for wired LAN connection. No PC required.

VIERA Image Viewer: View full-HD images with the integrated SD card slot, enabling you to view JPEG photos and AVCHD videos captured from your digital camera or camcorder on the big screen. Navigate your images via an easy-to-use thumbnail display, and choose from among five types of background music and five display effects. Plus, messages and memos can be added to photos from a PC to create detailed travelogues and original slideshows with messages.

VIERA Link: Allows the interlinked operation of various AV devices--from DVD and Blu-ray Disc players to home theater sound systems to digital cameras and camcorders--using only the VIERA remote control by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable (see pop-up illustration).

Game Mode: With Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too.

NeoPDP: By redesigning the Plasma panel's cell structure and developing an innovative new filter, Panasonic has tripled the luminous efficiency (compared to 2007 models) of its VIERA Plasma HDTVS--resulting in stunningly beautiful images while also reducing power consumption.

1080 Moving Picture Resolution: With 1080 lines of moving picture resolution and integrated NeoPDP technology's high-speed drive performance, the display time for each image frame is shortened to minimize afterimages, making decisive calls in football matches and delicate motions in figure skating performances appear crystal clear.

600Hz Sub-field Drive: 600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology, which converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects (see an illustration of 600Hz technology).

Infinite Black: The luminous efficiency of this NeoPDP Plasma panel has been improved by reducing the electrical pre-discharge that causes graying has greatly enhanced black gradation. The result is crisp blacks with no graying--even in living rooms with bright, afternoon lighting. And minimizing the electrical pre-discharge helps to both raise contrast and save energy.

THX Certified Display: THX reproduces film images as the filmmakers intended them. To receive THX certification, TVs undergo stringent tests to determine, for example, whether the exact same brightness and color are displayed at all screen locations, and whether black levels satisfy standard criteria.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

5 out of 5 stars Amazon.com is the best place to buy a TV   September 1, 2010
W. Aldridge (Portland, OR)
Or anything else, for that matter. After reading all the rave reviews all over the internet and looking high and low for one of these in the Portland, OR, area I finally gave up and ordered one from Amazon.com for a great price and with free shipping. Within a few days it was delivered to my home, schlepped into my living room and perfectly set up by the delivery man. I bought this set to replace a lesser Panasonic (a TC-P46C2) I had recently returned to Sears because of subpar image and color accuracy. There is no comparison between the two. This set is as good as they get. I just leave the picture setting on THX and forget about it. The picture is flawless, the sound is just fine and the anti-glare filter actually works.

Buying the set from Amazon.com was, as usual, an absolute marvel in terms of convenience and value. I commend them for the service they provide.

3 out of 5 stars Wireless LAN Adapter and connecting to Verizon Fios   August 21, 2010

Before purchasing this TV, I noted several negative reviews for same TV but different size re: issues getting LAN adapter to work w/ Verizon FIOS. Called Panasonic before purchase and got someone who was helpful, he searched Verizon site and found there was a fix for it. I didn't understand the info on Verizon site but I bought the TV anyway and decided to deal with it when I got it. After several painful calls to Panasonic (long hold time, not helpful, put on hold, told will call back and didn't), I finally called Verizon. They were wonderful. Took control of my computer and went into wireless router, had to change WEP to WPA2. Then Verizon helped me reset my "work from home" computer (my company has added security software) to make it compatible with WPA2. Verizon was wonderful, I would really hesitate to buy Panasonic again because of their support (or lack of). After all that, Netflix is not available on Viera Cast yet, I emailed Panasonic, they emailed back saying by end of Aug, another reviewer was told Sept? This is why I bought this model! Overall, the quality of picture is very good. But to me service is important, I don't have time to be put on hold for 30-50 minutes and then be told I will be called back within a couple hours and after a day still no call back.

5 out of 5 stars Better than expected!   August 3, 2010

Firstly, this is my first HDTV. I did a lot of research before buying a TV and decided that Plasma was the way to go (I hated the unnatural colors of LCDs). There weren't many other manufacturers that make 46" 1080p plasmas, so Panasonic was pretty much my only choice. The G25 line offered the best balance of looks and features that I was looking for. Older panasonic plasmas had fading issues, but supposedly that's been fixed.

In Standard and THX modes the colors, and particularly skin tones, are very natural. In Vivid mode everything lights up and becomes very saturated just like on the LCDs you see in the electronics stores. With the curtains down, Standard and THX modes are sufficient, but wash out when the curtains are opened mid-day (the TV is next to the patio door). Switching to Vivid fixes that.

Power consumption isn't as bad as I expected.
Standard/THX Mode: 110-180W for normal HD programming, 20W for an all black picture, 300W for an all white picture
Vivid Mode: 300-350W for normal HD programming

5 out of 5 stars love it   June 30, 2010

I'm 70 years old and haven't been so excited about anything in a long time. I'm also a shopper and very picky, I've been looking at flat screens for the last 3 years. First I loved the Pioneer elite plasma, but at about $4000 was kind of crazy - then looked at Samsung LCD which had a good review, then saw they were coming out with the LED last year, so waited for that, but was disappointed with the reviews - I always did like the plasma better than the LCD, so last year read and re-read about the Panasonic G10, then the G15 reviews, kept wondering and waiting, then to my great delight heard about the 2010 model G25 - this is it! I had a new entertainment center built to fit a 46 inch, then ordered the 46G25 - the entertainment center arrived on Tuesday and on Wednesday I got all my stuff in it and got it ready for the TV, the TV was delivered on Thursday, the Amazon delivery service took the TV out of the box and plugged it in and connected to cable - my niece picked up my old entertainment center right after the TV was delivered and I sat back and had to pinch myself that there it was, the new entertainment center with a beautiful new flat screen - I have basic cable through Time Warner, don't even have the extra box - the TV auto programmed all kinds of channels that I hadn't had before - all the TV channels that are broadcast in HD, like the network channels were set to two channels, for instance I have a 2 and 2-1, 4 and 4-1, 7 and 7-1, etc - the -1 channels are the HD channels, the channels that are not broadcast in HD still look good, but the HD channels are absolutely beautiful - you can set the format - so the channels that are not broadcast in HD I leave at the 4:3 format, otherwise it kind of stretches it out - there are several format and picture mode settings. I also connected to internet and watched UTube videos - but best of all the picture is beautiful - I'm glad I waited - it is perfect and I love it.

5 out of 5 stars Bright sharp colors   June 25, 2010

Had this 46" plasma 2 weeks, buying it from Amazon, as I did for another Panasonic, 42" plasma, about 1 year ago. The colors and crispness are quite remarkable on both sets, with the edge going to this beauty. I'm going to get separate speakers to enhance the on-board sound. I knew I would, no TV I've heard ever produces the sound I'd like. I'm telling you, with a DVD blue ray movie playing on this screen, there is going to have to be a overriding reason to pluck $8 down, or $16 if I take my dearly beloved along with $15 for goodies at some theatre to see a movie. You feel you are in your own private screening room with this TV, no cell phones, prattle or obnoxious people.

Dealing with Amazon is a no-brainer. With their frequent-flyer Prime account, no shipping costs when the item listed is sold directly from Amazon, it behooves frequent on line shoppers to look into this Amazon feature. I have probably purchased about 200 different items from Amazon over the last 3 years experiencing one small problem, remediated by Amazon, quickly and professionally. I truly like dealing with Amazon, with their delivery and service equal to the two other great on lines sites, Newegg and LLBean. with this TV the delivery guys carted the Tv down a flight of stairs to my cellar, (Man's Cave), unpackaged it, set it up on a stand, turned it on and showed me how to run it after tuning in all my cable stations.

If you got about $1100 hanging around and need a quality TV experience, look into this plasma. By the way, having looked at 40-50 LCD's and plasmas at Sears, Costco, Best Buy,etc, plasmas offer a clearer and crisper picture, more vibrant colors. This is a great TV experience manufactured by Panasonic and sold by Amazon. Can't wait to see Sunday, Monday, Thursday night NFL on this set.
